Another Griselda release expected to be dropped on vinyl April 23rd, 2021. Buffalo emcee Benny the Butcher introduced himself to the culture in 2017 with his “Butcher on Steroids”. Followed by the debut album “Tana Talk 3″ which was published one year later on Black Friday.
In October 2020 Benny dropped his second official album produced by Hit-Boy who himself had a great year already working with Nas, Big Sean & much more.

With producers like The Alchemist or DJ Daringer making some of his previous music and creating that grimey street sound The Butcher is known for… Hit-Boy’s productions come off more soulful overall catching a good 90’s vibe on some cuts.

“Famous” for me is a legit throw back to “So Sincere” by AZ. Actually made me listen to A.W.O.L. right after, which was a dope reminder.
Quite a deep song on the album is called “Thank God I Made It” featuring vocals by Queen Naija. On the track Benny talks about his brother who passed away and how his nephew reminds him of that everytime…

Further highlight is the posse cut “War Paint” where he teamed up with fellow Griselda artists Westside Gunn & Conway the Machine who dropping some ill lines. Including a nice throw back at the end of the cut with a funny skit from the Madd Rapper.

The feature guests overall are mostly chosen well and pretty much fit the more glamorous scheme of the record. “One way flight” is another outstanding song featuring Freddie Gibbs over a soulful instrumental.
And if you’re looking for a more gritty sounding cut, you probably looking for “Sly Green” named after a Buffalo street legend.

Overall a very solid project with a more introspective and thoughtful Benny The Butcher through out the whole album. Hit-Boy brings modern and soulful beats to the table that still create this late late 90’s, early 00′ feeling.
Apart from that Griselda Records is definately one of those labels to look out for in in future. After dropping Conway’s “From King To A God” as well as two WestsideGunn releases the same year. It will be interesting what 2021 has to offer.
